Sayulita Is For Surfing….Sometimes

After all the challenges getting to Sayulita from Mazatlan (see my previous post for details), I woke up my first morning to find out there was absolutely no surf in Sayulita. I had six days here, and only two days ended up having any waves. But those two days were still a lot of fun. I went with a local instructor one day and on my own the second day.

Some small rights about 20 minutes before I went out my first day. They got a bit bigger throughout the afternoon and I had some nice rides.
My instructor, Gato is getting my board ready for my first afternoon session. He’s from Sayulita, owns the surf school and still competes in contests throughout Mexico.

A couple of days where there was no surf I went out on a stand up paddleboard. As you can see the coast is beautiful around Sayulita.

And just south of Sayulita
Looking even further south towards Puerto Vallarta

Outside of the water, Sayulita is an official Puebla Magico, or charmed town. It’s small, quaint and has a relaxed touristy feel with some really good food.

I’m staying in a small, comfortable apartment just up the hill from the main town and the beach.

It was a steep hill down to the town and the beach from where I was staying.
