Diving in the Banco Chinchorro Atoll

In my second day in Mahahual I had the opportunity to do three dives out on the Banco Chincorro atoll. It’s about a 90 minute windy, bouncy boat ride out from Mahahual. It’s the largest atoll in the Atlantic Ocean and in the Northern Hemisphere. We saw a ton of beautiful coral formations and had numerous nurse sharks join us as we dived. The highlight was when our dive instructors caught a couple of lionfish (which are considered an invasive species in the Caribbean and are actively hunted) and fed them to the sharks.

Third Dive at Aquario

We were told these brain sponges are unique and relatively rare
